it ain't me babe
they left out all the good parts - all the significant parts. like the time johnny got arrested for trespassing in mississippi - when he was high as hell wanted to pick some flowers. later on that night he hurt himself from repeatedly kicking the bars to his cell. "hey porter" came before "folsom." i couldn't believe their jerry lee when he said he was going to hell. you better believe that when jerry lee said that it was NOT in jest, it was not a result of intoxication, it was Truth with a capital t. the california wildfire which made johnny the only person successfully sued by the state of california. they nixed the part when johnny said "i'm gonna marry you someday" to june - the greatest true love story and we don't even get the good parts..no talk of the trumpets coming in a dream.
and, most of all, his withdrawal. i think if they told it with johnny crawling through nickajack cave trying to, literally, find the light - it would have been so much more fitting for cash, the same dude that travelled with billy graham and was raised on gospel, than some father v. son dialogue, crying on a tractor followed by rolling around in the sheets. cash was all about redemption - when he went into that cave, he did the deed. if they wanted to stick with the home detox - why would they not mention the death of luther perkins as a MAJOR event?
also, i don't care if she's from tennessee, reese witherspoon is, as my dad said, "southern as yankee's spit."
